LG Professionals NT is able to offer a selection of in person training courses that can be booked as an in-council training session. If your council would prefer to share the training opportunity, courses can be requested to be delivered as an open program and available to any local government professional to attend.

Stepping into Supervising
Taking on the role of supervisor or team leader is an important step on your leadership journey. To be successful you need practical skills that you can call on immediately, to manage your team, communicate effectively and provide direction. These skills assist you in setting strong foundations for continued development.
This two-day course covers topics that help new supervisors and team leaders, become aware of their leadership and communication preferences, as well as understanding team needs and behaviour. Participants leave this course with the skills to begin managing a team effectively and the confidence to apply learnt materials.

Managing Performance and Productivity
As communities change, the expectations and strain placed upon each council in local government has also changed. Leaders now need to actively manage staff performance and grow the people in their business to increase productivity and remain viable.
They need to be able to manage the changes in their environment, leading people through these changes to keep the team united and motivated. Participants will leave this course with a range of ways to help their people perform at their best. Understanding both the importance of articulating what high performance looks like, the importance of an overall vision for motivation, and having the tools to implement them.

Managing Complex Performance: Inc Mental Health
​Managing your team can be made more challenging with the inclusion of complex issues such as mental health impacting performance. Navigating and balancing both the requirements of the business and the well-being of team members is fraught without clear direction, knowledge of rights and responsibilities and practical skills to support both the leader and staff involved.
In this course we will explore the leadership skill of managing complex situations, with the inclusion of mental health issues in the workplace. It will provide leaders with case studies to explore along with practical guides and an understanding of how to manage the process from observation through to supportive performance expectations conversation. Leaders will come away from this course with a clear understanding of what is expected of them, along with practical tools to manage the business and impacted team members.

Aspiring Leaders Program
The Aspiring Leaders Program is a development opportunity for leaders who wish to improve their ability to lead and manage their direct reports. Through a variety of learning mediums, the program builds over five in-class learning days and two online learning sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to develop a variety of leadership skills. The skills will centre around owning communication as a leader in everyday interactions, performance improvement, dealing with conflict and presenting to an audience. These are essential skills for the modern leader to be confident and proficient in the workplace.
